 NIGHT SCENES:          PHOTOGRAPHS

 AND POEMS

It was my privilege to contribute to Ralph Gabriner's collection of photographs, titled Night Scenes, which was published in 2011.  Ralph has created a body of images that see the character in people and the places they work, live and socialize.

Ralph has an uncanny feeling for the incongruous, the ironic and the poignant sense of dislocation, alienation and adaptation humans go through on a daily basis. A sense of abandonment and peace alternates with a jaunty energy in his pictures--night-time is especially conducive to his vision.

When Ralph asked me to contribute some poems and commentary to this collection, I reviewed the photographs in the galleys and drew my inspiration from them. Later we did an audio-book in which I read the poems.
